Donated my remaining credit to Koala. The pain was too great. 1/5

The uptime and call quality has been very consistent and quite good for some time now as is reflected in their uptime percentage improving, and the lack of recent quality complaints.

It would appear that Piker listed bellow has a problem with lost/missing credit. True or untrue who knows, but if this is a problem then fair enough, however I find the rest of his posting somewhat confusing, and as his comment does not reflect on the current service being provided, as a self admitted ex user, then perhaps this is not the appropriate forum to air his grievances.

Just my 2c worth.

Once again Curtis has placed his paw in his own mouth!! This is obvious from Koala's own network outage notice posted on the front page here!!!!

The Drop Bear obviously hasn't changed its spots :o)

And I again reiterate from my previous post below, Koala removed/took/lost (whatever you wish to call it)credit from my account (when I was a "customer") and failed to even bother responding to my emails of questioning where my credit had gone!!!

Neither has Curtis or anyone else from Koala had the fortitude to respond publicly in any of the forums in which I have made this known.

If that is the way Koala runs its business then so be it, but I have little faith in the veracity of anything Curtis (or anyone else from Koala for that matter)has to say about his VoIP up time.

Of late I have found the call quality to be excellent, with no silent calls like my last VoIP provider, also I have had no problems in making free calls to family also using Koala.

In short I am happy to recommend them to anyone, and I am sure if they get service as good as I have, then they will be very happy.

The only area of concern from my viewpoint, is that my pre paid credit balance has not dropped in the last week or so, even though I have made a few calls recently, still if I don't get charged for them, then who am I to complain.

All I can say is you are so bias it isnt funny. We have not had a single outage since October. Not even 1minute.

Even the customer below says he MADE calls when you say there was an outage.

I know you dont like Koala, but what you do is low low low...

Lets see if you delete this one like the others.

Editor's Note:No Curtis, I'll leave it here, as a clear demonstration that Koala's staff members have many pitfalls, one of them is, THEY DON'T SEEM ABLE TO READ, the conditions state that no providers shall leave comments.

FYI: The outage logged was a correct outage. I confirmed it myself.
The outage:
Koala Normal IAX 2007-01-25 17:37:13 2007-01-25 18:45:17 4084
... was unique to just Koala, and for such a long time it couldn't have been a minor network issue.

Yes Curtis, I am so biased that I would go as far as randomly pluck outages out of thin air. Notice the comment remained? So biased, that I leave comments that might be suggestive of that, up on the site.

Carefully think about this.

If I was biased, would I have left the comment by Peter on the 25/1/07 live, full well knowing it could be deleted in just a nano second? I left it there, because I clearly saw an outage, and it was for a length of time that is beyond just a simple router reboot. He says he made calls, that may well be the case, the point here is, your server cluster didn't respond to our requests for the time logged, that's how we monitor, that's what the statistics are formed from, nothing at all sourced from a single user. Dissatisfied? Contact Us page works.

Koala were shown as UNREACHABLE, During this period I made 2 calls with them!

Editor's Note: Koala use a router to connect to servers, and whilst you might have been able to make calls using one host or server, the one we connect to (listed in the provider's list), may have (and in this case appears so), been down. They have a cluster of servers behind a router, as I understand it, and if we lose connection to one, it's going to flag them down and out (as it should).

They seem to be getting much better. Apart from a few days of mobile issues, i have not had a problem. Excellent call quality. On the rise again. 4/5

Peter

I left for a while due to the downtime problems, but I have recently started using them again and the call quality varies from perfect to clear with a slight echo. But certainly no worse than other VoIP providers I have used. I have never had a problem with my pre paid account balance and so have not had some of the problems others describe.

In my humble opinion if they can maintain the call quality and minimise the down time then they are as good as or better than most other providers.

Koala look good on paper but that's as far as it goes. This is the worst VoIP provider I've had the misfortune to attempt to use. Lots of finger pointing at their upstream providers and empty promises to fix things. Don't even think about considering Koala they won't get better despite their promises. 1/5

I agree with dave. I have been with Koala for about 6 months and recently outgoing call quality has been great. For a home phone Koala as great value for money. I wouldn't use thir DID's though I've heard that they suck. Just use telstra for incomming calls most of us have to have a line for ADSL anyway.. 4/5

Koala have messed several times with my SIP ID and my account balance. I no longer trust them with my money as money has been known to disappear from my account at the drop of a hat.
If they ever get their stuff together, I may consider using them again.

Have been very up and down for service. The staff seem friendly enough, but they have had far too much down time over the past few months. The have been up and stable for a little while now, if they can keep this up they will be a quality provider, but they have alot of work to do to fix their tattered name. When they are up their call quality is one of the best I have used. 3/5

Koala are absolutely horrid. They mess accounts up and screw around with a lot of their systems too much. They can't get a stable system running, and there are people that are HEAPS cheaper then Koala (they charge 10c + GST per call, other providers are just 10c inc).

I highly advise anyone thinking of using Koala to run the other direction right now. Don't ever, ever use Koala.

Rubbish. Support have no idea what they are doing and the engineers seem to know less. They charge for unconnected calls. Their billing sucks and so does their reliability.
On the odd occasion when you can make a call the quality is high but the unreliablity of their service is a good reason to give Koala VoIP a wide berth.

The Calls on Koala were lets say good but down time and dead calls make it to hard if you are after and landline replacement, when the wife can't make calls gets a bit annoying also...might try them in again 6-12months as they still have my credit. So im off to gotalk at least its post paid and i haven't had any probs in the last month.... 2/5

Ok when they are working, but it is obvious from the ongoing outage of 29/10, that the have some serious competency problems. Their customer customer support has been uncontactable throughout the outage. The domain koalatelecom.com.au fails nslookup now. Does this mean they no longer exist? 1/5

Absolutely hopeless. Do not touch unless they give you $10 free calls - at least you are wasting their dollars, not yours. On reflection not even worth the agro. Sorry, not a friendly opinion, so hack me if you believe it necessary. Stating facts, this is all. 1/5

Koala are utter rubbish, I wouldn't waste your time.

Their service is down more than up, their calls are off poor voice quality, their billing is incorrect half the time.

Honestly, even though they are a $0 monthly fee, 10 cent calls, so are many other providers, who I can rater an instant 5. Koala in my mind, don't even deserve 1. They really need to pull their finger out.

It would appear that the nsw.koalavoip.com.au server is down. However the koalavoip.com.au server is working fine.

So perhaps a link should test this site which affects all Australian users, not just those in NSW.

Good to see you monitoring state based servers. Helps users determine who has the fault. It would be good if your monitoring could demonstrate a difference between servers. If it can't then the latency measurement is dominated by PIPE delays not server performance, so meaningless outside Sydney. 0/5

As an innocent bystander seeing inside the Koala support, sales and colo area's, i would have to say that yes they have had downtimes in the past, i do know they are working at the customer service side by hiring more staff and the new GM has built in a new sales/support call centre to add extra staff to the phone queue. I dunno, i think voip has its days and every company has their moments, i do believe that Koala will get through this and continue to provide cheap voip services just with better uptime :), well at least i hope so for the customer sake. Just my 2 cents i guess. Thanks. 0/5

Koala provide high quality calls at 10c untimed and 19c/min to mobiles. However, the reliability of the service and billing still leave much to be desired as at 25/9/06. 3/5
